Q: Do I need a referral from my GP?
A: You will need a referral from your GP or another specialist to be able to claim a medicare rebate. Otherwise you will have to pay the full consultation fee. Medicare rebates can be processed electronically by our office.
Q: Does my private health insurance or Medicare cover consultations?
A: Most private health insurers do not cover specialist consultations. Medicare will cover a part of the consultation fee if you have a current referral. Referrals from GPs are valid for 12 months. Referrals from specialists are valid for 3 months.
Q: What do I bring to my appointment?
A: You should bring:
- Your referral letter
- Medicare card
- Private Insurance details / Pension Card / DVA Card
- Xray, Ultrasound, CT, MRI scans on film or disc
- Any test results
- New Patient Registration form (if not already faxed/emailed/posted)
